ShiPai is probably the most multi-purpose indoor wall in Taipei. It has one central pillar and 3 vertical walls with one top roof all of which are about 15 meters tall. There are a full range of routs form beginner to expert and its open pretty much every day all day until 10:00+. It is located in the ShiPai Sports center on the 2nd floor and is accessible by subway. Take the Red line and exit at ShiPai walk north following the subway line until you reach the streetlight. Take a left at the light and walk until you see the family mart. Take a right on the first ally past the family mart and walk straight until you see the park on your left. Turn left at the park and the sports complex will be on your left side. Its 150NT per person and you can rent gear if you don't have your own. They sell shoes, harnesses and chalk bags and can offer group classes and training.
Pros: ShiPai has a full range of climbing and very quiet during afternoons.
Cons: It is very crowded after 6 most days and the routs don't change much.
Y-17 is a also a multi purpose indoor climbing gym. They are closer to the center of Taipei and the walls are taller than at ShiPai. There is a small bouldering corner and several parts of the wall are offer challenging overhangs. As is normal in Taipei since it is in the middle of the city it is often very crowded after 5pm. The routs are typically more dificult than at ShiPai and the since the walls are higher you can get a better work-out. They do rent gear at the desk but there are three hour climbing "sessions" and they do make people clear out between them.
Pros: The routs and walls are longer and higher, and its in the middle of the city.
Cons: Very crouded after 5 and it is advised to take a deep breath before walking into the bathrooms.
